Sketchbook: My Today's Outfit

A quick sketch of my outfit today -
sometimes it's just what you need when there is no photographer around. :)

Sketchbook: Russian Beauty

I did a bit of sketching while I was on vacation in Oregon. This was the most interesting one, I think. Inspired by Pinterest board Justin has with medieval costumes and stuff. I believe Slavic costumes are among the most intricate ones.

Sketchbook: Fashion Illustration? Why not!

Haven't sketched in a while. It was so fun to play with a pencil again! :)

Additional Charcoal Portrait from Oregon

I completely forgot that there was another drawing - I used both sides of the paper and just overlooked it. Mom asked whether she could take these drawings with her, so Justin scanned them - so we now have copies. The good thing about scanning is that you can actually see the texture and color of the paper.

Charcoal Portraits: First Attempt II

A few more sketches done while in Oregon. After these, there will be my second attempt. :)

Charcoal Portraits: First Attempt

I'm a little annoyed with myself for tweaking the settings of this blog, going from public to private and then public again. The truth is I just feel self-conscious for not posting more stuff more regularly here. But hey, it is what it is now. I'm so tired of trying to "get it right" - why not just appreciate life (and blogging) for what it is, stop worrying about not doing it the right way and just enjoy it!

My Art Album from 30 years ago

Seeing this album was a surprise for me on many levels. First of all, I did not know that Mom saved it. I forgot what projects we were working on in 5th grade. I was surprised to see the wide variety of media and techniques we were taught. Our teacher Aleksei Sergeevich Poletaev was a fine artist who had his exhibitions in our town and in Krasnoyarsk (the big city nearby), as I heard. We had two years of art classes (once a week) in 5th and 6th grades. It was fun to see what I was able to create between 11 and 12 years old (my daughter's age now), especially as I watch my daughter growing and see what they do in their art class, while at the same time I'm rediscovering my own interest in visual arts which was rather passive for the last 30 years.

Making Art Exploration: Sketches

I used to love drawing and painting as a kid, but as I was growing up with an extremely artistically talented brother, I guess I have not developed the confidence to stick with my interest, and it became more art appreciation than art making. When Justin saw my little drawings the very first time, he was surprised and started encouraging me. I still did not take myself very seriously and kept doing my sketches only once or twice a year. Now I have a very artistically gifted daughter to support. :) It's funny how we find excuses to not do something we are not confident about instead of just doing it and gradually growing and becoming better at it. Sound familiar anyone?
