Love Is a Funny Word - Poem. Write and Link #7

This month for Write and Link, for the first time instead of writing a story, I wrote a poem. I never consider pieces of writing I publish on my blogs finished pieces - they are rather work in progress, and that's their whole meaning. I am thankful for this extra day that we get this month, this year, for letting me to take my time and write whatever came to me this morning.

We say “I love you”
And part our ways.
We hide,
We close our doors,
We live in pain.
But it all could be different,
If only
We stopped
Being afraid,
Pampering hurt in our heart,
If only
We started trusting,
Opening up.

Love
Can mean
So many things
To different people,
On different paths,
In different phases of life.
Affair,
Admiration,
Affection,
Attraction,
Fancy,
Friendship,
Freedom,
Flirtation,
Pain,
Parenthood,
Partnership,
Passion –
Love
Can be all of the above
And more –
Or none.

Coziness,
Cuteness,
Quirkiness,
Quasi-wisdom,
Opulence,
Openness,
Optical illusion,
Tenderness,
Tension,
Trivialization
Or simply
Tricks of light –
Love
Is like life.

It’s what you make of it.
It’s your definition,
Decision,
Despair,
Whether
You’re looking for fate,
Or a hobby,
Or a hubby (a pair) –
It is up to you what it means.
Is it liking
Or lurking,
Lunacy,
Lusting
Or simply
Letting be?
Only your heart can know
Whether it’s growth
Or getting to the grave,
Or both.

What is love?
Tell me
And help me see,
Whether we say “I love you”
And part our ways
Or we say “I love you”
And stay.
